THE MODERN CHUrCH'S MISSING LINK

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. * John 14:16-17

THE SECOND STEP

Being born again is turning on our engine; being baptized in the Holy Spirit is stepping on theaccelertor and start peddling the gospel......

The Holy Spirit is our Helper who will depend on us to get up so He can help us get going.

OUR SPIRITUAL CUP

Becoming Pentecostal/Charismatic is to remove our hand from over our spiritual cup.

CHRIST

STTo be prepared for the coming of our Lord is to be longing for it, to be looking forward to it, and to be living accordingly.Whether it is the public debt, the population explosion, the pollution of our environment, AIDS, or any other catastrophe facing our society, human effort is limited to merely slowing the trend -- not reversing it. The sin and greed that have caused these things are still present. God is long-suffering but He has foreordained a military coup when Christ returns to rule with a rod of iron.Following Christ will cost us everything, and a bill comes due each day as we take up our cross and follow Him.Without Jesus Christ man is damned if he does, and he is damned if does not. He is irrelevant. The only person whose reputation means anything is Jesus Christ. Even the Holy Spirit has elected to subordinate his reputation to that of Jesus. Then shouldn't we?

THE MARK

It has been said that the greatest indictment of a church is not that it is falling short of the mark but that is not striving for the mark. And some ask, "what mark?"

CHILDREN

For parents to expect obedience from their children, they must set an example of their obedience to their Parent -- their Heavenly father. Just as our children must do things they dislike, parents should demonstrate that they are willing to do for their Father some things that they may not like doing. Christian parents who are only doing for God the things they like cannot expect their children to do otherwise. How often do your children see you doing your homework -- studying your Bible? If we find it necessary to shout at our children to get their attention, we should ask ourselves if our Heavenly Father has the same problem. Allowing us to experience trials is one way He shouts.Christ said we must be as little children to enter the kingdom of God. That is to say, we are to have the unquestioning faith of a child. It does not mean we are to be retarded in our spiritual growth. We are to become holy as God is holy. The reason so many young people are not able to find themselves is because they are looking for the wrong person. And they are looking in the wrong place. If they first find the Lord, He will then show them who they are, what they are, their potential as His children, and why God created them in the first place. In trying to find themselves they are looking for someone who is lost, and when they have found themselves, it will have proven to be a dead end.If faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God -- and without faith it is impossible to please God -- it must follow that it is impossible to please God if we are not listening to Him. Is not one of the greatest difficulties we have with our children that they do not listen to us?If we have difficulty giving both God and our children quality time, why not combine some of both? Shouldn't we be training our children to spend quality time listening to God? Shouldn't it be a joint venture? If we excuse our failure to spend quality time with God because of the needs of a child, how do we justify having another one?Why do we make commitments to children, friends, and activities, but tell God we will spend more time with Him just as soon as we get caught up?

Friday, November 25, 2005

CARNALITY

When we constantly give priority to the temporal over the eternal, the material over the spiritual, and time with the world over time with our Lord, we are establishing habits that, the longer they are practiced, the harder they will be to break. In time, they will be unbreakable -- and fatal!

THE FALL

The fall of man mandated their be a fall guy -- the Creator of the universe - Jesus Christ!

BLESSINGS

When God first blesses us in a new way, we may be full of praise and thanksgiving. If we are not careful, we will come to think of what we have received as something we had deserved and take it for granted. It may then be necessary for God to take it away for a time until we get recalibrated

Tuesday, November 22, 2005

the truth

The enemy of the truth is a half-truth.

BEGGING

There are times that God must foreclose on those things that we have bought into beyond what He has afforded us to pay for. Walking along the brink of bankruptcy on a presumed faith that results in begging for financial support is not stepping out in God's faith. It is ambition. If God ordains something to be done, He may not provide the means up front, but He will never be late in supplying it. God's provision does not require begging. If we find it necessary to beg, we have gotten ahead of God. Having to beg is the evidence that we have stepped out in presumption -- not faith.

SELF-JUSTIFICATION

Self-justification is a free pass to Hell.
But through the blood of Jesus we take the overpass.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES

In a denominational church, speaking about speakning in tongues is equivalent to speaking in tongues.

ATTITUDE

Since it is our thoughts that decide our attitude, control of our thoughts is vital to enjoying the abundant life that Christ came to bring us. No matter how difficult controlling our thoughts may seem, our peace of mind depends on it.The abundant life is the Christ-centered attitude. It is not based on our circumstances.

OBEDIENCE TO GOD

Salvation may be thought of as an eternal life insurance policy.
But it is not a paid up policy!
So if we do not keep up the payments, it will lapse.
And the coin of the realm is "obedience."

A COMFORT ZONE

An unfortunate number of Christians have come to think that their comfort one is their destination in flolllowing Christ. But it is, at best, merely a rest stop. And to dwell there is to no longer following Him.

THE HELPER

JOHN 14:16-18 KNJ16 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever,17 "even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.18 "I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
JOHN 16:7 NKJ7 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
JOHN 15:26 NKJ26 "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

However, it is incumbent upon us to be open to doing what He directs us to do.We must take the first step. Step out in faith so to speak.
If we are merely doing what we choose, we are on our own.
It is often stated that "God helps those that who help themselves". Although this encourages initiative, it also suggests we do not need the Helper.
When it is with His help that we accomplish His work, we must give Him the credit.
Pentecost is where we place our help wanted ad. And the Helper is on the way!

Our claim

We may claim we are Christians but works is the name of the game.

TURNING OVER A NEW PAGE

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is going to the Holy Spirit's Book and then to the page He is holding upon to us. And then to tag along as He turns the pages. He will meet us where we are but we must be willing to follow Him as He turns the pages.

SOMETHING HARD TO CHEW ON

Hebrews 5:8. Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.

Do we need to suffer to learn obedience?

9. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,

Are there disobedient Christians or is that an oxymoron?

10. being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. 11. Concerning him we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

Have our presuppositions made us hard of hearing?

12. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

Are we sippers or chewers?

13. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. 14. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

PRIVATE INTERPRETATION OF THE BIBLE

1 Corinthians 13:1. If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
2.
If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3.
And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
4.
Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant,
5.
does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,
6.
does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;
7.
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8.
Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away.
9.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part;
10.
but when the PERFECT comes, the partial will be done away.
11.
When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things.
12.
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.
13.
But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

This chapter is often called the love chapter. It is frequently read at memorial survices without any apparent understanding that it is describing how the gifts of the Holy Spirit as described in chapters 12 and 14 are to be used. It is totally taken out of context.

It is also the basis on which those who say the gifts of Pentecost passed away with the early church. They have chosen to privately interpret the meaning of the word "perfect" to refer to when the biBible was cannonized. And the gifts are no longer needed since we now have the Bible.

It is akin to saying that now we have the documation, we don't need the program.

Of course this requires ignoring the fact that there are an estimated number of over 400,000 Christians who have expperienced and continue to experience the manifestation of these gifts.

And how many think the "perfect" has come?

However, for me, the great tragedy is that, for many Chrristians, they may as well have cease since they neither want them, are seeking them, or have any intest in using them, even to help others. Luke:11:9-13

FREE DIVINE SOFTWARE

In many ways our brain can be compared to a computer.
For example, it has a "hard drive", a short term "ram", and an operating program.
I submit that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a power pack utility software utility ackage that Jesus will install if we ask him and are willing to download it. It is a vital need for those who are open to doing what He calls us to do.
For the documentations, see:
http://69.6.236.221/baptism2.htm

REQUEST

IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED IF YOU DO NOT POST UNRELATED COMMENT TO THE BLOGS.

THEY HAVE EYES BUT THEY SEE NOT

There are those who who say,
the Holy Spirit's gifts have passed away,
and are no longer available today.
And closed their minds and eyes to see
their only chance to be,
the means and ways that set us free.
That are His gifts to you and you and me.

OUR CALLING

It is not our call to merely chat,
to chew the fat,
but get off our pratt whereon we sat.

To stand up tall,
to give our all, like Pete and Paul.
.And go to bat, and hit the ball.
that is our call and to never stall.
And that is that, it is our call.

A QUESTION

Multitudes of Christians regularly sing this hymn by Charles Wesley but do they know what they are asking for?

Oh for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer's praise,
The glories of my God and King,
The triumphs of His grace!

Charles, as well a John, were charismatic, could hardly have meant a thousand physical tongues since that would make us a monstrosity.
Perhaps there is a clue in verse 16. ( not included in most hymnals)

Then with my heart I first believed,
Believed with faith divine,
Power with the Holy Ghost received
To call the Savior mine.

So the question is, why is this hymn sung by so many who are not seeking this power?

THE ABUNDANCE

John 10:10. "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

This is eteral life but the abundance came at Pentecost. http://69.6.236.221/baptism2.htm

ATTENTION!

If we make it necessary, God will allow or cause circumstances to get our attention. Cancer is very effective.

INVISIBLE INK

For Christians who have already made up their mind, many parts of the Bible are written in invisible ink. The ink is there to make us think.

A WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL

Derek Prince's Weekly Devotional for October 17, 2005

Psalm 5:12
Here is a word for you from the Word.
For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them withyour favor as with a shield. NIV
That's one thing very sure--God blesses the righteous. Alot of things today that we used to count on, we've found nolonger absolutely sure. Many places that we looked for security andcertainty have failed us and let us down. Political solutions andfinancial solutions seem to be crumbling today. But there is one thingstill sure in life, that God blesses the righteous. We need to spendmuch more concern about making sure that our lives are right beforeGod. That we qualify for that blessing of the Lord which He reservesfor the righteous, which is only for the righteous.
And then the psalmist says, "You surround them [the righteous]with your favor as with a shield." God's favor is towardthe righteous and when we walk in His righteousness His favor is likea shield, like a protection around about us that shields us againstthe blows of life. It shields us against the pressures. It shields usagainst forces that are too strong for us. It shields us from harm anddanger and evil. What a blessing to walk in the favor of the Lord, toknow His presence, to know His favor around about you as a shield.Remember, there's one thing sure; God blesses the righteous. -Derek Prince

HOLY SPIRIT POWER BY A DAM SITE

The Scriptures say that when we are saved we are filled with the Holy Spirit. For those who say it is the same as being baptized in the Holy spirit I offer this analogy..
Visualize a hydo-electric plant. There is a lake behind it that represts being filled with the Holy Spirit. However, no power is generated until there is a flow through the genereators. Being baptized in the Holy Spirit opens the gates. This generates the power by which we enlighten the world because out of the dam flows rivers of living water.
We may have a lake of living water within us but we need to ask Jesus to open the gates.

See John 7:37-39

THE TEMPORAL VERSUS THE ETERNAL

It has been said that the enemy of the best (eternal) is something good (temporal).

Although it is not an either/or proposition but when the temporal is a substitute for the eternal it becomes its enemy.

THE SECOND BLESSIMG

The baptism in the Holy Spirit by Jesus is getting in cahoots with the Holy Spirit.

Jesus' second blessing

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is getting in cahoots with Him.

MORE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE MUCH

Kenneth Hagen, the late well-known evangelist, testified to having prayed this prayer for himself for an extended period of time and he experienced a dramatic change in his life. It is a prayer that Paul prayed for the Ephesians.

(Ephesians 1:17-19 and 3:16-4:1) It has been paraphrased into the first person so an individual can pray it for himself. Father, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, I pray that you will give me the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that I may know You better. I pray also that the eyes of my heart may be enlightened in order that I may know the hope to which You have called me, the riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints, and Your incomparably great power for us who believe. I pray that out of Your glorious riches You may strengthen me with power through Your [Holy] Spirit in my inner being, so that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith. And I pray that I, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge -- that I may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to You, who is able to do immeasurably more than all I can ask or imagine, according to Your power that is at work within me, to You be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations

The Ephesians were Spirit-filled born again believers but even for them
there was more.

ANOTHER QUESTION

Why is it that anyone will accept an offer of money without question?
But when it is suggested, even to Christians, that God has both present and eternal riches which are free for the asking*** that they often refuse? In fact, some take offense that it is being suggested that they don't already have it all.

<s9. "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
10. "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
11. "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?
12. "Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he?
13. "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"

THE THIRD WORLD

The third world is much more open to God's world of miracles than the either the first or second. They are worlds apart.

A QUESTION

Luke 11 9. "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you
will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
10. "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to
him who knocks, it will be opened.
11. "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish;
he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he?
12. "Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion,
will he?
13. "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to
those who ask Him?"

Question 1 Who is saying this?

Question 2 Who is He addressing?

Question 3 What are they He is addressing told to ask, seek, and
knock for?

Why do they need to do this?

HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM IS POST SALVATION

Some contend salvation includes the baptism in the Holy Spirit.
But it only testifies to the fact they do NOT know their Bible. The following passage is addressed to the chiledren of God. So Jesus is instructiong them to ask, seek, and knock until they get the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 11:9-139 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Luke 11L9-1310 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent?

12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

My Favorite Poem

Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;
For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Waiting on the Lord is not just waiting for Him to do something for us. It is being available to be told what He wants us to do for Him or someone else.

.

Going All Out For The Second Blessing

Luke 11:9-13 says those who are earnestly seeking the baptism in the Holy Spirit should ask, and keep on asking, seek and keep on seeking, knock and keep on knocking. Whispering, peaking, and tapping just won't get it.

Waiting on the Lord is to subordinate our iniative.
It means getting it right the first time.
It avoids ready, fire, aim.

What Is on Your Plate?

Many, many Christians don't just put the boldness and the power of the Holy Spirit on the back burner, they are even what's cooking.

The Need to Stay Tuned

Romans 12:2 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
KJV

Transformation is to be open and willing to allowing the Holy Spirit to edit, delete and update our presuppositions. "Yes, but...." Breaks the connection. "Yes, Lord" gives Him the password.

Holy Spirit Freeware

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is freeware but each Chirisian must go to the Jesus website and download it and install it. However, we must have previously installed Jesus as our Lord and Savior.
And as we grow in our dedication and commitment, He will upgrade it.

The Clean Plate Club

The Bible is God's cornucopia, but each Christian is to eat and digest whatever The Holy Spirit puts on their plate and with no leftovers.

The living Bible

The only "living Bible" is the one brought alive by the Power of the Living Author, the Holy Spirit. He also has the correct version.

The Great Barrier Belief

That the salvation measure of the Holy Spirit is all there is.

That the claim is the same as the proof.

That the part is the whole.

That the promise is the fullfillment as well as the confirmation.

Hohum Or Yummy Yummy?

Christian growth to maturity is continually turning over a new leaf but cherished presuppositions closes the book.

For those much of the Bible is written in invisible ink.

They are looking through the leyhole instead of opening the door.

To be full gospel is to want more. Otherwise they are settling for less.

And do we want more or are we satisfied with what we have?

My Final Prayer

When I can no longer do what Jesus wants me to do, I want Him to do what I want Him to do -- take me home.

A Great Delusion

Many Christians believe they are being "God like" because they change not.

The Second Blessing

The importance of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is only secondary to the importance to our being born-again. But without it the church would have never been born in the first place.

Children Who Die

Children who die get a new Heavenly foster home.

Risky FAith

Faith ins believing we are born-again but having no inclination to proving it.

An Answer To Prayer

A coyote had two skunks cornered in a cave when one said, "Let us spray." And God scent the coyote on his way.

A Divine Edict

Every Christian is called to be a fisher of men.
But they need the line of the gospel, the hook of conviction, and the bait of signs and wonders. And they need to be willing to get into deep water.

The Ultimate Bailout

The natural man owes a debt that he can't pay, even by refinancing.
But if he is willing to claim spiritual bankruptcy, Jesus will pickup the tab.

The Easy Way Out

Speculatiing about what a Bible passage means, is more comfortable than admitting we just don't know.

The Light of Truth

The Scriptures must be examined in the light of the
Holy Spirit's revelations -- not in the light of our presupositions. If we want to get it right, we need the right Light. The wrong light will give us a dim view of the truth.

God's One-two Blessing

Being born-again enables the Holy Sprit to indwell us but it takes Jesus' baptism in the Holy Spirit to empower us.

A Common Tragedy

The Holy Spirit has amazing gifts for those who will use them but tragically they don't fit in with most Christian's plans.

Healing Class Report

Hi! Last night we had nine in attendance.
Maria gave her testimony of her miracle healing.
I gave mine about my testimony being included in a new book.
However, she also has had a chronic pain in her ankles which she described as a six on a scale of one to ten. I prayed for her and it went to a zero.
Jewel has had a problem with vertigo from time to time. I prayed that her inner ear be restored to normal. As I did so she noticed that her ears were opening us and she could hear better.
She also brought a friend named Rose who had a chronic back and hip problem with her right leg being shorter than her left. I did the leg thing, the hip thing and the arm thing. She was astonished to see movement in each case, especially her hips.
From the sensations she experienced there is reason she was totally healed. At least the pain was gone.
I then did a group arm thing and to the amazement of all there were arms moving without anyone touching them. With Anna she said something about it blessing her.
Other than that, not much happened. Hal

The Trinity

Granted, there are unfathomable mysteries about the Trinity that are beyond our comprehension but that does not preclude our having a working relationship with Him as our Comforter, Teacher, Counselor, and Guide.

The Necessity of Pentecost

If it were not for Pentecost, Jesus would have died in vain.

The Bible as a Menu

Many Christians view the Bible as a menu from which they feel free to choose whatever agrees with them. But obedience will cure their indigestion.

The Claim is Not the Same

To say we are a Christian is only a claim until our works proclaim it.

Another Dodge

Another dodge of those who are not ernesly asking, seeking, and knockng to receive the Holy Spirit's power is that they already have it. But where is the beef?

Free Will

To create man in His own image, God had to give us free will.
But our eternal destiny depends on how we execise it.

God's Preference

God first uses a carrot to get our attention but keeps a pitchfork handy - so be sure to eat your veggies.

The World Versus the Spiritual

The world shouts; God whispers.
The world uses headlines; God uses fine print that makes us squnt.

God's Love

God's love is gift wrapped so we must unwrap it.

The Gift of Helps

For those who want an excuse for not seeking the any of the nine spiritual gifts they have a convenient out. It is called the gift of helps. And they define it to apply to whatever they wish.

Spiritual Gifts

The Bible says the Holy Spirit decides who get what gifts, but his favorites are those He know will use them as He directs.

Warning!

If you think we are not in the Biblical last days, get ready to duck.

Going For the Gold

The fact that works will not save us shuld not blind us to the fact we will be eternally rewarded for our works. But not those of our own choosing. But only those done in obedience to God's specific directions. Doing what we are told wins the gold.

The Source of Truth

Generally speaking, the Bible is regarded by Christians as the primary source of the truth of God.
And not withstanding that there are translation errors, versions, as well as being subject to private interpretations. Thus, denominations.

The Bible is the written Word of the Author, the Holy Spirit, who is the primary source of truth. That is why He was sent as our Teacher. So to seek the truth we need to sit at His feet, so to speak, through being baptized in Him by Jesus.

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Scriptures indeed say that it is the Holy Spirit who decides who gets what gifts. He gives them to the obedient, those who are dedicated to using them as He intends, and those who will share their benefits. And He plays favorites.

The Great Barrier Belief

Perhaps the greatest barrier to receiving the Holy Spirit's gifts is a proud heart. And it works well to fortify our comfort zone.

Time For Some Ryme?

Our commission
Jesus as a man became,
to take my blame,
to bear my shame,
and heal the lame.
And we're to now proclaim,
In His Holy name,
and by the Holy Spirit's flame,
...the same.
May it be our aim.

Hal Weeks, California

**********************
The Big Question
What purpose do we serve,
If we never have the nerve,
To share our faith,
...without reserve?
For fear we'll turn whoever off,
That some will turn away and scoff.
But keep it bottled up inside,
Because of pride.
We're to be forever bold,
Until our story's told,
...and sold.
And then we'll know a joy untold,
And later get a crown of gold.
So we're to go our way,
And say our say,
Without delay,
...today.
And it will pay,
When we go away,
Someday...to stay,
...I pray.

Hal Weeks, California
***********************

Christ's Empathy
Jesus came to set us free,
from Satan and his tyranny.
To take away creation's curse,
By being made a substitute,
and found to be of no repute.
He also gave His very all,
to redeem us from the fall,
-- if we will only hear His call.
He died and then arose,
to show to all of those,
who in their sins were rebels still,
and who'll continue 'till,
they finally pay their total bill.
Then when He to Heaven went,
the Holy Ghost was duly sent,
To make it clearly evident,
that we can be a holy place,
Wherein for Him to shed his grace.
So now we have the Holy Ghost,
That we might do our uttermost,
To spread His word from coast to coast.
And when our earthly work is done,
and our new life has just begun,
we'll be someone to whom He says,
"Well done, my good and faithful son."

Hal Weeks, California

Divine Perks

The Holy Spirit has many a perk for those who never shirk from doing His work.

Obedience to God

Being obedient to God is impossible as long as we remain hunkered down in our "comfort zone."

The Perfect Investment

Investing in the Kingdom of God guarantees an abundant return.
But He wants it up front.

The Enabling of The Holy Spirt

The Holy Spirit is the Helper to those are doing what He wants.

He is the Teacher of those who need to know how to do it.

He is the Guide to those who need His direction.

He is the Comforter of those who suffer persucation for doing it.

But it starts with the ball in our court!

The Life God Rewards

If what we claim we are doing for God is no more than what unbelievers are doing for their own self-gratification, wherein is our testimony? God rewards those things done in obedience to Him. Therein lies our testimony.

Monday, August 29, 2005

A Common Dodge

When we know there is something we should be doing for God but don't want to do it, we can dodge it by adding it to our "Good Intentions." list.

First Things First

If we want answers to our prayer, first start by asking the Holy Spirit what He wants us to pray for.

Faith Versus Faith

Faith negates worry.

Turning our problems over to God is better than tossing and turning in bed.

Faith and worry are mutually exclusive.

Worrying is borrowing trouble at an exorbitant rate of interest.

Faith is God's antidote for worry.

Faith is a lot less time comsuming.

Becoming Charismatic - Who Needs it?

Becoming Charismatic is not merely a fringe benefit. It is vital for spiritual growth.

Bible Class Teaching

Bible Study is merely intellectual if it is not consequential.

Handy Cop-out

If there is something we know God wants us to do but we don't want to do it, we can just give it a low priority on our good intentions list.

A Praise Report

I have just received a book entitled "Water to Wine 2 Fish to a Feast" by Betty Overstreet.
It was sent to me because I had agreed to allow using my testimony in the book. It is on page 35 but you can read it on my website too at http://69.6.236.221/mystory.htm
This is the third book in which my testimony has been included.

A Major Miner's Mistake

The Holy Spirit's spiritual gifts are a mine of miracles but most Christians just don't dig it.

God's Ways Are Not Our Ways

What might seem like a detour in our spiritual journey could well be a shortcut in God's plan for us.

Think Again

Jesus needed signs and wonder to spread the gospel.
Some modern churches think they can do it by social action alone.

The Proof of Being a Christian

That we are a born-again Chrisian is a claim, but it takes signs and wonder to prove it. Mark 16:15-20

The Mandate of Doing

The mandate of what we, as Christians, are called to be should not negate the mandate of what we are called to do.

Satan's Trap

One of the most insidious traps that most Christians fall into has been set by Satan - a comfort zone.

A Rarely Taught Topic

Question: "What is the Judgment Seat of Christ / Bema Seat of Christ?”

Answer: A believer's deeds are judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ (Romans 14:10-12). This judgment does not determine salvation, but rather is when believers must give an account of their lives to Christ. We should not look at the Judgment Seat of Christ as God judging our sins, but rather as God rewarding us for our lives. Yes, we will have to give an account of our lives. Part of this is surely answering for the sins we committed. However, I do not think that is going to be the focus of the Judgment Seat of Christ.
At the Judgment Seat of Christ, believers are rewarded based on how faithfully they served Christ (1 Corinthians 9:4-27; 2 Timothy 2:5). The things we will likely be judged on is how well we obeyed the Great Commission (Matt 28:18-20), how victorious we were over sin (Romans 6:1-4), how well we controlled our tongue (James 3:1-9), etc. The Bible speaks of believers receiving crowns for different things based on how faithfully they served Christ (1Corinthians 9:4-27; 2Timothy 2:5). The various crowns are described in 2 Timothy 2:5; 2 Timothy 4:8; James 1:12; 1 Peter 5:4; Revelation
2:10.

Rarely Asked Questions

Oswald Chambers, the author of the best-seller, "My Utmost For His Highest," testifies in his autobiography that it was Luke 11:9-13 that led him into experiencing the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Luke 11 9. "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10. "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened. 11. "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake ievil, know how to give good gifts to your children, "Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? Then how much will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.

First, it tells us to ask, seek and knock.
9. "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.;"And then it tells what we will receive if we do it.
"and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10. "For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.

Then it cites a hman example.
"Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? 12. "Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he?

Since it refers to our Heavenly Father, is it not being addressed to Spirit-filled believers?
"Then how much will your Heavenly Father"

What then are we, as Spirit-filled believers, to be asking, seeking, and knocking to receive?
that your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him

Miracles Experienced by Former Healing Class Student

This past week at the healing rooms, a woman who had come in 2-3 weeks ago told my prayer team that she had been prayed for panic attacks and they were gone and also she had gone off her medications voluntarily. She told her Christian psychriatrist.

Another woman was prayed for as a demonstration in a healing room class and lost her back pain. She came Thurs. eve and was prayed for again by my team. We broke the geneational curse of sciatica (her mother had this also) and took authority over the generational spirit of sciatica and her pain of a "6" was gone. We never prayed for actual healing. Praise God

Bill and I went to the Harvest Rock Confernece where Bill Johnson was one of the speakers. We know that people are being raised from the dead infreguently in Africa, but Bill says they've had 2 incidences of pregnant mothers who were told by their doctors that their babies had died and they had to opeate to remove the dead baby or the mother would also die. Both chose to believe God and got prayer. Both delivered healthy babies in the US! He says we are going to see more and more of the miraculous. Becky Hitt

Prayer and Healing Class Report

Our attendance consisted of three pale faces and seven Afro-Americans.
Anita Bumgardner, Rhonda, Anna, Jewel, and a gentlemen who came and brought his three daughters.
There were several praise reports of how God had used them to minister to others.

Rhonda prayed for Jewel for vertigo attacks. Anita prayed for the gentleman who had back pain.

The meeting closed with a prayer circle and Anna sang, "He Touched Me."

Our Frame of Reference

If we have a narrow frame of reference we will never see the big picture.

More Where That Came From.

Many who have experienced the salvation measure of the Holy Spirit do not take advantage of the fact there is more where that came from.

Staying on Tap

Keep doing what the Holy Spirit tells you and He will keep you on tap.

A Major Mistake

Those who treat the Holy Spirit like a minor member of the Trinity are making a major mistake.

Oswald Chambers - August 13

1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 16 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. KJV

Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. KJV

Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? KJV

Matthew 12:31-32 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. 32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. KJV
Romans 8 11. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Never choose to be a worker, but when God has put His call on you, woe be to you if you turn either to the right or the left.
We are not here to serve God because we have chosen to do so, but because God has apprehended [to grasp with the understanding : recognize the meaning of] us.
There is never any thought of -- "Oh well, I am not fitted for this."
What you are to preach is determined by God, not your own natural inclinations.
Keep your soul steadfastly related to God and remember that you are called not to bear testimony only, but to preach the gospel. Every Christian must testify, but when it comes to the call to preach, there must be the agonizing grip of God's hand on you, your life is in the grip of God for that one thing. How many of us are held like that?

Never water down the Word of God, preach it in its undiluted sterness; there must be unflinching loyalty to the word of God; but when you come to personal dealing with your fellow men, remember who you are -- not a special being made up in Heaven, but a sinner saved by grace.
"I count not myself to apprehended; but this one thing I do......"Questions:

If we are not doing what the Holy Spirit tells us, are we not grieving Him?

How can we do what He tell us if we are not listening?

And if we repeatedly turn a deaf ear to His prompting won't He stop trying?

Won't He be quenched and grieved?

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

God Heals a Neck Pain

Dear Hal,
Two weeks ago I asked for prayer in your Healing Class. My neck vertebras were injured a long time ago. Arthritis settled there and the pain was very intense and I had no flexibility in my neck.
You prayed for me and the pain that was a nine on a scale of one to ten went to zero. I am still pain free as I type this testimony [and I regained normal flexibility in my neck movement].
I thank the Lord Jesus for healing my neck through your prayers
.

Beware!

Rock someone's doctrinal boat and they will hit you with either/or.

The Price of Holding Unforgiveness

Matthew 6:14-15 14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. KJV
Holding unforgiveness puts the ball in our court.

Lady Healed of Back Pain

Working at San Diego State University requires a certain amount of walking on my part. Therefore having a pinched nerve in my back, leaving my left leg without the usual lift in my step, was causing a great deal of pain, discomfort, and inconvenience. Over a period of several months, and many trips to doctors, including the usual physical therapy, my medical condition did not change.
For a whole week my husband did all of work at home while I lay on our couch, propped up by pillows in a supposedly therapeutic pose, bringing no improvement whatsoever. Oh yes, I could move about, but the pain didn't let up for a moment.
One weekend my husband, Jerry, took me on a short walk to show me our neighbors' garden and their fuchsias called "Dancing Ladies" that were in full bloom. We knew our neighbors, Hal and Ginny Weeks, through the church. While we were admiring their flowers, the Weeks visited with us through their window and invited us inside to pray for my painful condition.
Hal invoked the Spirit of Our Living God, in the name of Jesus Christ, to enter my body and heal me of my pain. Within minutes my miracle took place, the pain never to return. My healing was approximately five years ago. I am now more of a believer in miracle healing through the Holy Spirit than ever before. Trust and obey and PRAISE THE LORD!

Chicken Soup for the Mind

The Return of Christ
To be prepared for the coming of our Lord is to be longing for it, to be looking forward to it, and to be living accordingly.
Whether it is the public debt, the population explosion, the pollution of our environment, AIDS, or any other catastrophe facing our society, human effort is limited to merely slowing the trend -- not reversing it. The sin and greed that have caused these things are still present. God is long-suffering but He has foreordained a military coup when Christ returns to rule with a rod of iron.

Miracle in Hospital Waiting Room

On July 26, while I was sitting waiting my turn for a blood test, I noticed a lady that appeared to be very distressed.
I went over tho her and asked her if she needed help. She said it was her back that was so painful.that she could hardly stand it. I then asked her if she believed in divine healing and she said she did.
I then offered to pray for her back. As we usually do, I asked her how long she had had it. She said for over a year and the doctors didn't know what to dofor it. I then asked her, on a scale of one to ten, how bad was it. She said eight or ten.
I prayed for her and it went down to about a four. I prayed again and it went down to a two. I didn't pray for her further healing and I explained why. When someone is totally healed they usually go there way and forget that Jesus had healed them. I told her to consumate the healing start thanking Jesus for what she had already recieved until the remaining pain had gone. She thanked me and I went back to my seat. All of which proved to me again that we are to minister to others wherever, whenever, and however. Thank you, Jesus!

America's wake-up call

9/11 that day, life in America changed. The attack on America's sovereign soil was a wake-up call, and it certainly isn't over. We are, indeed, at war. We are engaged in Islam's "Jihad". Most Americans - and even most Christians - have no real awareness of the nature of Islam: its origin, its agenda and its methods. We each must understand the realities and not be blind-sighted by misleading propaganda. Get up-to-date on what is really happening. There is much to pray about.

But have we hit the snooze button?

Chronic pain relieved

On June 4, 1993, as I was walking off of a marine dock, my life changed dramatically. A large surge hit the floating dock. The ramp which rested on the dock and led up to shore was tossed up. In a flash, the several ton ramp crashed down on my foot and trapped me. The pain was excruciating. I felt as if I was being sucked into a black hole and drained of life. I began screaming, "God, please help me! Please help me Lord!" Many on-lookers raced to help lift the ramp and pull me out. But the weight was too much. I heard fragments of sentences - discussion of how to free me - "amputation". I was later told that I cried out for everyone to pray. As quickly as it happened, a large surge hit the dock a second time and I was pulled free. A doctor and a nurse ran down the ramp and took over until the rescue squad arrived. The nurse said she and the doctor were foot specialists and would administer my needs. I believe they were there to "minister" to my needs. They could not be located following my injury - not by doctors in the hospital nor by an article in the local paper. Could God have sent the second surge to free me as well as the angels to assist me? There is no doubt in my mind. The crush injury kept me in the hospital over a week. There was fear of loosing the foot, then the fear of skin grafts, and the fear of not walking again. None of these fears prevailed. I did however develop a nerve disorder referred to as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). It is an extremely painful condition that is something like putting an ice cube on an exposed nerve or having hot sauce run through your veins. There are no cures - just trial and error treatments. After several months, my husband and I moved to San Diego. I continued with physical therapy and began treatment at UCSD's Pain Clinic. My husband and I started attending St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Coronado - yet another blessing. Like a vine, God was weaving a path and leading me to Him. For months we sat in the balcony where I could cry and release my emotions undetected. The pain in my foot was taking over. I was exhausted physically and emotionally. I contemplated suicide. Yet, I still felt drawn to church and found some peace when surrounded by the beautiful music. Something we had not observed in the Methodist church before was healing prayer at the rail following communion. Some great impulse (!) sent me there - my husband by my side. I wanted the minister to pray for me. But as God would have it, Hal and his wife asked me to come forward. As I knelt at the rail they asked about my condition and need for prayer. I asked for "endurance of the pain". Hal responded, " we're not going to pray for endurance, but to be rid of the pain!" And in the name of Jesus as Hal touched my head, boom! I was laying on the floor in the most wonderful tranquility and lightness. My foot was tingling. Tears started to flow and I knew something was happening - something I didn't understand but could trust completely. As I laid on the floor, I could see my husband's questioning face as he leaned against the front pew. I knew what he was thinking. What's going on here? And if I had suspected what was going to happen, I doubt I would have gone for healing prayer. I didn't believe those preachers I had occasionally seen on TV. Well believe me! Jesus has given authority for others to practice what He demonstrated. And what a wonderful blessing! My pain was reduced significantly. It was not a total healing. However, I still believe that He will heal my foot 100%. However, what He gave me has changed my life. He has gotten my attention. And now I have an ongoing relationship with Him. The peace of knowing God as my Father and Jesus as my Savior weaves through every part of my life. His vine continues to grow with me - as long as I seek Him. I am so thankful that I can walk, that God is using Hal and others from the healing class to convey His word and promises to His children, that I am being lead to meaningful and fulfilling tasks. Currently I am a volunteer at a neonatal intensive care unit. I feed, rock, diaper and sing to premature babies. I pray for them and their families. I love my work. I pray that it is satisfying to my Father for He has given me so much. Something I would not have sought became my miracle and blessing. I know that God wants to share such with you. Seek Him for healing - whether physical or emotional. As you stay in His word and develop an intimate relationship with Him, you will find your blessings too. Frances Howard

Hal's Note: Frances subsequently received the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. Frances and her husband have since been transferred to Tampa, Florida. She graciously sent me this testimony to add to my homepage. It was at her instigation that our present prayer and healing class was started.
I have seen Frances recently and she is still doing fine.

Something to ponder

If we have difficulty giving both God and our children quality time, why not combine some of both? Shouldn't we be training our children to spend quality time listening to God? Shouldn't it be a joint venture?

Why is this so?

The Scriptures on which our teaching is based

Our Website Scriptural Doctrine

The Great Exchange:

John 16:7-15 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, cause they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. KJV

Invitation:
John 7:37-39 37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

A Promise:
John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. KJV

A Command:
Acts 1:4-8 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. 6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. KJV

A command:
Mark 16:15-2015He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; .... they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
19After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 20Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

A Promise:
John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. KJV

A command:
James 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deeds.

Heart miraculously healed

August, 1998
A few weeks ago, my heart went bad. I had a diagnosis of arterial fibrillation. I was in the hospital emergency twice in less than two weeks. The first time I blacked out, and was taken to the hospital emergency. I got all the treatment a heart patient gets, the machines, wires, patches, etc. The cardiologist was called in. He put me on a blood thinner and other medications. He told me, there was a 2-out-of-3 chance I would have a stroke before morning! The cardiologist came in the next morning, looked at the blood test, and checked me over. My heart was back to normal. The blood thinner was working, I could go home and continue all medication. I was warned: If there was any pain around my heart, any weakness, to get to emergency quick! He would see me in 2 weeks otherwise. I was home 3-4 days and started to bleed inside. I went back to emergency. The doctor didn't know where the blood was coming from, but they did know they couldn't stop it. The blood had to be thickened and that would take time. So they did blood test all night, like every 2 hours till the blood thickened. I was released from the hospital with warning: don't pick up a knife, don't shave your legs, don't ride in a car etc....For if I cut myself or fell and hurt myself, they could not stop the blood.

I was told to stay in the house until the blood stopped. I was released from the hospital on Friday. I noticed Saturday, the blood was less.

Then Sunday morning there was hardly any blood. So I said, "I'm going to church." I had to walk about 2-3 blocks, but I felt I could make it. I wore flat shoes and walked slow and I made it. I always sit in the same seat in church each Sunday, with a friend. She already knew about my heart problem and was asking me about my health, when a friend of hers stopped to say hello to her.

This is when I met Becky Hitt. My friend asked me to tell Becky about my heart problem. I did. It was close to time for church services to start. Becky was going to sit in another spot. But she said to me, "I will pray for you!" (At this time I didn't know that Becky did healing prayer) I thanked her. I thought she meant she would remember me in her prayers next week. I thought what a kind nice lady she was to pray for me. I sure needed all the prayer I could get!!

So I sat through the services, but began to get very tired, and little pains were all around my heart. I had been told by the doctor, that this might happen. If so, I was to get to emergency fast. I thought I was on my way. I was leaving my seat when Becky, the Prayer Lady, came and touched me on the arm. She said, "my husband Bill and I would like to pray for you." She caught me off-guard. I liked the idea of prayer very much. But I didn't know it was to be now, in the church. And too, I had this pain all around my heart like fine needles sticking in the flesh. My mind was saying, "Should I go for home and the hospital, or prayer?" I went for the prayer!! Bill & Becky prayed for me. Then Bill asked me, "How do you feel?" My mouth flew open. I said "The pain around my heart is gone!! Bill, Becky & I all said, "Praise the Lord!!" I walked home a little faster, than I had coming. I felt fine, all the next week.

On Sunday, I waved to Bill & Becky that I was okay. Then the Friday of the next week I saw the cardiologist, for a follow-up visit. This would tell the story. What they would add to, take away, what medications I would take, etc. ( I did dread this visit). The nurse saw me first, she took my blood pressure. She said, "looks good." Then the doctor did what he does, checked the pulse, lungs, then moved to the front of the chest, then moved to the back. He would listen in one spot then move to another spot, move back and listen to the same spot again. (I would think he had found something). When he came around where I could see his face. There was a big smile on his face, he said "Everything is just perfect. Your heart is so in tune, I could set my watch by it." Then, he said "I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to take you off all medication, and put you on one small aspirin a day. We will try you on this, but if there's any problem, I will put you back on the other medications, but in smaller doses." I said, "Oh, no, no, the aspirin is going to be just fine. Everything will be okay!! For I am getting some very effective prayer for me at the church." The doctor looked at me and smiled. He said, "I will see you in 6 months."

Praise the Lord!

Chicken soup for the mind

PRECONCEPTIONS
To be able to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, we should be able to find at least two biblical references to support every belief, or discard it. To hold to a belief for any other reason is one aspect of being enslaved. That is why it is important to read the Scriptures daily. It will show us the things in our doctrinal closet that need to be discarded. Scripture says, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind." This is a command and is therefore something we must do! This requires us to examine our traditional beliefs, our preconceptions, our prejudices, and bring every thought, idea, and mind-set to the Holy Spirit for judgment. This requires us to allow Him to delete from our theology anything that is contrary to whatever the Holy Spirit wants to do in and through us. The computer literate might think of their preconceptions as a write-protected file. If our preconceptions can make us deaf and blind to the new things of God, they also can make us deaf and dumb and blind to the truth.
